On November 12, 1987, the first American-based fast food restaurant, Kentucky Fried Chicken, also known as KFC, opened its door in Qianmen, downtown Beijing. As of November 2007, KFC has opened more than 2,000 branches in China.
Another fast food giant McDonald's opened its first restaurant in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province in 1990.
