Tibetan Court Music

Tibetan court music was popular in the Tibetan area before the Tubo Kingdom emerged, but its musical instruments and tunes were very simple. With the advent of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Tubo court music saw rapid development. While inheriting ancient music traditions, it absorbed the best aspects of Han court music, Indian, Yutian and Qiuci music. The Song of Luck, Tune of the Bodhisattva mentioned in ancient books, were all popular in the Tubo court. Picture shows the Norbu Lingka court band playing skin drum and suona (1956)
