Sagar Dawa Festival

The Sagar Dawa Festival falls on the 15th day of the fourth Tibetan month. It is said that Sakyamuni, founder of Buddhism, was born, entered monkhood and passed away on that day. In the past, nobles came to Dzongyab Lukhang in Lhasa, rowing bull boats, singing and dancing to their heart's content, and, at the same time, praying to Buddha for blessings and good harvests. The poor were forbidden to enter this place, which now has become a public park, customarily called Longyutan Park in Chinese (1957)
