Having been in China for 15 years, Bai Yang can speak fluent Chinese. He comes from Iran and his wife is Kuwaiti. They have lived in Yinchuan City, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, since 1997.
In 2004, Bai established an English language training school called Smile.
With both Chinese and foreign teachers, the school has attracted several hundred students and won parents' trust. As the headmaster, Bai is devoted himself in training teachers, meeting with parents and putting his ideas into practice.
"Bai has different ideas on English training. He is a responsible headmaster," said Eric, an American teacher at Smile. Bai even designs pictures for class presentations, and they can be seen throughout the school.
In his teens, Bai was a brilliant drummer. His experience in teaching drums inspired his endeavors in the education business.
In 1997, the Bais started to learn Chinese at Ningxia University in Yinchuan. Difficulties at the very beginning didn't dilute his interest in China. "China develops so fast, much faster than Iran. People here helped us a lot. We made lots of friends, and Chinese food is very delicious!" he said, "Therefore, we wanted to try to live another year here."
That extra year became 15, during which he noted Chinese students need to improve their way of learning English by developing interest in the language and practicing their speaking and listening skills.
He has three kids: sons Bai Yun and Bai Long and daughter Bai Lu. Two were born in China. He often talks with them in Chinese.
Outside of work, Bai lives comfortably, often playing music with his children. He also enjoys badminton. |
