Severe Drought
A local woman squats in a dried reservoir in Nanqiao Village in southwest China's Guizhou Province on August 2. The most severe drought in the area since 1959 has left 146,000 people and 51,000 livestocks without drinking water. The direct economic losses hit 110 million yuan (about $17 million). The provincial flood control and drought relief authority has initiated a third-level emergency response plan to cope with the drought (XINHUA)
