Liftoff
A remote-sensing satellite, Yaogan VII, is launched from Jiuquan in northwestern China's Gansu Province on December 9 by a Long March 2D carrier rocket. It will be mainly used for scientific experiments, land resources surveys, crop yield estimates and disaster prevention and reduction. The rocket was designed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (CFP)
