The village, co-sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Government and SOS Kinderdorf International (SOS KDI), currently houses six "families" with 14 orphans from 10 months to 10 years old. Ten SOS Children's Villages have been set up in Chinese cities since 1984, including Beijing, Tianjin, Qiqihar, Chengdu, Urumqi and Lhasa. At present, more than 1,400 Chinese orphans are being looked after in the villages (XINHUA)
