Spyros Zagaris, mayor of Marathon City in Greece, lit the torch with the flame which was ignited at the birthplace of marathon, kicking off a global torch relay to celebrate the 2,500th birthday of marathon. At the ceremony, Marathon City and Xiamen formed "a friendly tie," promising to cooperate in cultural and economic development.
