New World Heritage Site in China | The file photo taken on October 2002 shows an aerial image of Tulou, an unique residential complex of Fujian Province in southeastern China. Built from the 11th century to the 20th century in the mountain areas across Fujian and neighboring provinces, the Tulou buildings were aimed at meeting the requirements of a whole clan to live together, which also served other functions such as defense. It is inscribed on the UNESCO's World Heritage List as a cultural site on July 6, bringing the total number of Chinese properties on the list to 36. (Xinhua) |
