Medical experts sent by the Ministry of Health set up a virus lab in Fuyang to do scientific research in enterovirus 71, or EV71. Anhui is the worst-hit province in China in the recent outbreak of the hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) epidemic, with a total of 5,840 cases reported by May 4.
