In the process he assisted fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal to also reach the last four, raising the prospect of an all-Spanish final on Sunday. Shanghai used to hold the event in 2002, 2005 and 2006 previously. In March, the ATP board has approved the city as the host of the ATP's Asian Masters Series tournament, starting in 2009.
