Special Olympics Comes to Dazzling End | The picture taken on October 11, 2007 shows the bird view of the closing ceremony of the Special Olympics World Summer Game at Shanghai Stadium. After five years of preparation, Shanghai presented the world what many said was the greatest Special Olympics and provided people with intellectual disabilities an arena to display their abilities and talents. It is the first time that Special Olympics held in Asia. Some 7,500 athletes from more than 160 countries and regions participated in 25 Olympic-type and demonstration sports. Moreover, China has made the commitment to recruit as many as 1 million intellectually disabled athletes for its Special Olympics program by 2010, almost double the current figure. (Xinhua) |
