South Korean Hostage Issue in Afghanistan | Family members of kidnapped South Koreans in Afghanistan appeal to the nation for the safe return of their kidnapped loved ones at the Korean Foundation for World Aid in Seoul, July 23, 2007. South Korean officials were continuing their contacts with the Afghan government to win the release of 23 Koreans taken hostage in Afghanistan. Taliban rebels in Afghanistan warned on July 23 that talks to secure the release of 23 South Korean hostages were "not going well" and reiterated their threat to kill them by sunset. The Islamic militant group has set an extended deadline of 1430 GMT July 23 for their demands to be met, including the release of 23 Taliban prisoners and the withdrawal of South Korean troops from Afghanistan.
