The Purse of Disabled Persons Also Becomes Heaviver
By GAO GUOYUN and KOU ZHENGLING

Li Dezhong, a disabled farmer of Fengshan Village in Shahe Town of Beijing's Changping County, now earns more than 30,000 yuan a year since he contracted for a six hectare vegetable field in 1992. This year, he runs another three-hectare greenhouse to plant vegetables under a 10-year contract.

Today, Li's family, including his physically handicapped wife and son, live in a new tile-roofed, six-roomed house, with two newly bought farm vehicles.

"I should thank the tax-free state policy and the efforts rendered by the County Federation for Disabled Persons, which had helped me escape from poverty and make my family well-off," said Li, who used to live by borrowing.

At present, some 85 percent of the more than 20,000 disabled persons in Changping County have found jobs. They can earn an average annual income of 2,000 yuan.
