Beijing Sponsors Activities To Aid the Disabled

On December 13, 1997,several hundred people from all walks of life gathered at the Beijing Xiangjiang Village Club to sponsor a charity activity designed to aid handicapped people. Included in the event were representatives of domestic and overseas enterprises, officials of foreign embassies, Beijing's disabled artists and representatives of the disabled in the business circles.

The purpose of the event was to raise money by promoting sales of handicrafts produced by the disabled through lotteries, meal coupons and lucky lottery drawings.

All money collected from various marketing and arts sales during the event have been donated to the China Federation of the Disabled Person. They included 300,000 yuan from selling lotteries by the Beijing Xiangjiang Park, 80,000 yuan from the Hong Kong Land Ltd.and nearly 20,000 yuan from works by disabled artists, including paintings and calligraphy, seal cuttings and handicrafts.
