Chinese Sailors Prepare for the Paralympic Games

With about a week and a half to go until the Paralympics, China's sailing team is using every minute to prepare for competition.

A beautiful sunny day but for the Paralympic sailing team, it means another hard day of training.

Weather permitting, these athletes have to train for eight hours a day to prepare for the Games that will be kicked off on September 6.

Su Li, coach of Chinese Paralympic sailing team, said "They [The athletes] have strong desire to win; they want to have a good performance. Though with only two weeks left, we will work hard to improve our training."

The athletes are in high spirits, particularly after the Chinese Olympic sailing delegation won the first-ever gold medal and a bronze medal.

"Yin Jian got the first gold medal for the Chinese sailing team. She said Qingdao is an auspicious place which brought her good fortune. I was born in Qingdao, and I hope I can have the same luck too," said the Paralympic sailor Jia Hailiang.

Sailing was introduced to the Paralympic Games as a full medal sport at the 2000 Sydney Games.
