Du Li of China Wins Gold in Women's 50m Rifle Three Positions

Chinese shooter Du Li staged a comeback to smash the Olympic record in the women's 50m rifle three positions at the Beijing Olympic Games on Thursday.

Du scored 690.3 points, 1.9 points higher than the previous one held by Russian shooter Lioubov Galkina, ensuring a hard-won Olympic gold medal on home soil. As the defending champion in women's 10m air rifle, she finished the fifth on the first day of the Games.

Katerina Emmons of the Czech Republic nailed down the silver with 687.7 points after a hot pursuit. Eglis Yaima Cruz of Cuba won the bronze with a slim disadvantage of 0.1 point.

Another Chinese shooter Wu Liuxi finished the eighth.
