Liu Zige of China Wins Women's 200m Butterfly Gold With New World Record

Liu Zige of China won the women's 200m butterfly gold medal with a new world record at the Beijing Olympic Games on Thursday.

It is the country's first swimming gold at the ongoing Games.

Liu touched in 2 minutes, 4.18 seconds, smashing the previous world record of 2 minutes, 5.40 seconds set by Jessicah Schipper of Australia in 2006.

Liu's fellow Chinese Jiao Liuyang took the silver and former record holder Schipper grabbed the bronze.
