Feng Xiaogang, who snapped the award for the first time, said he was thrilled for his 14-year film career grew with the film festival, which turns 15 this year.

The Beijing Times reported that number of applications and entries was the most ever this year and the red-carpet show for the closing ceremony was studded with stars.

A total of 23 awards were given out during the ceremony and Zhang Hanyu in The Assembly and Miao Pu in the Chinese and Japanese cooperative production Phoenix were crowned the Best Actor and the Best Actress, respectively.
