After a one-year tenure, Naghmana A. Hashmi, Pakistan's Ambassador to China, left for Pakistan on July 12, according to a statement released by the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing. During her stay in China, Hashmi proactively promoted and further strengthened deep-rooted friendship with China, cemented economic and trade ties and took concrete steps to promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges, according to the statement. She personally supervised the measures to protect the lives of Pakistani nationals stranded in the hardest-hit Wuhan of Hubei Province, central China and other parts of China when the novel coronavirus disease hit the country in early February. A distinguished diplomat of Pakistan, Hashmi has served as Pakistan's Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, Luxemburg and Ireland before arriving in China for her ambassadorial assignment. She had earlier served in Beijing from 2003-07 as deputy head of mission. Hashmi will conclude her 38-year career and retire on July 19. Moin-ul-Haque, currently serving as Pakistan's Ambassador to France, will succeed her as the new envoy to Beijing. Copyedited by Madhusudan Chaubey Comments to mamm@bjreview.com |
