The 2019 South and Southeast Asia Commodity Expo and Investment Fair (SSACEIF) opened in Kunming, southwest China's Yunnan Province, on June 12. The weeklong event aims to boost trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges between China and South and Southeast Asian countries. The SSACEIF helps facilitate progress in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, Chen Hao, Secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee, said at the opening ceremony. Products and investment projects of 3,000 companies from China and some 70 other countries and regions are on display at the event. "I hope that through this event we can know more about China and let more Chinese customers know about our products," Mohamed Risan, Manager of IR Supplies, a food manufacturing company from the Maldives, told Beijing Review. Nalin Bandara Jayamaha, Deputy Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade of Sri Lanka, one of the guest countries of honor at the 2019 SSACEIF, said at the launch ceremony of his country's pavilion that China and Sri Lanka have enjoyed a very good relationship. "When it comes to import, China is the country which helps Sri Lanka in various manners. I highly believe that the two countries will enjoy more cooperation in the future," he said.
