Communist Party leaders and scholars have a panel discussion at the Wanshou Forum in Beijing on February 28 (JI JING)

Communist party leaders from Europe, North America and Latin America spoke highly of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in a New Era, especially the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity at the 27th Wanshou Forum cohosted by the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) and Renmin University of China (RUC) in Beijing on February 28.

Thirteen Communist party leaders from 10 countries as well as Chinese and foreign scholars participated in the forum and held discussions on the theme of A Community with a Shared Future for Humanity and the Development of World Socialism.

Participants agreed that the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity has shown the direction for improving global governance, balancing global development, promoting mutual learning between civilizations and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation.

Robert Griffiths, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Britain, said, “Only a country that is confident in its own values and progress could raise with credibility the concept of building a global community with a shared future for humanity. It says as much about China’s enormous economic, environmental, social and cultural advances as it says not only of its own future, but its ambition for a common future in which these advances are shared with others.”

“Only China is qualified to hold an event of this kind because among the great powers, it appears only to be China that thinks about the world as a place we all share and in which humanity can build a common future. One doesn’t hear this kind of talk from political or business leaders in the UK, the United States or Germany. Their interests are much narrower. It’s because we are concerned about the broad interests of humanity that we are communists,” Griffiths added.

Walter Sorrentino, Secretary of International Relations of the Communist Party of Brazil, said a community with a shared future for humanity and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in a New Era provides important guidance for communist parties around the world.

“We need new concepts to guide us in our efforts to combat capitalism and imperialism and these concepts have illuminated our future direction,” he said.

Jin Nuo, Secretary of the CPC Committee at RUC, said a community with a shared future for humanity guides not only China’s participation in global governance but also other countries’ involvement with the world.

Chen Xulong, Director of the Department for International and Strategic Studies at the China Institute of International Studies, said, “A community with a shared future for humanity is the world view and methodology of President Xi Jinping. It reflects how he views the world and the development of human society. ”

“It’s very important for the Party and has been written into the CPC Constitution. It’s also very important for China and has been inscribed in the country’s constitution. Promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity has become the common pursuit of the Party and the nation,” Chen continued.

Luan Jianzhang, Director of the Research Office of IDCPC, said under the framework of socialism with Chinese characteristics, those who get rich first are supposed to help the rest in order to realize common prosperity. The same logic is embedded in the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity. Since China has made great strides in various fields, it wants to help other countries develop so as to realize common development.

Li Wen, Former Deputy Director with the Institute of American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said the concept complies with the objective law of human societal development discovered by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels and represents the direction of human civilization.

Initiated by the IDCPC in 2016, the Wanshou Forum aims to provide an international platform for political parties, think tanks and non-governmental organizations to carry out exchanges with a focus on important agendas such as South-South cooperation. It is committed to building a community with a shared future for humanity and a better world.
