Guo Weimin, spokesman of the Second Session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attends a press conference at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on March 2. The CPPCC National Committee held a press conference one day ahead of its annual session (XINHUA)

As China and the United States make progress in resolving trade tensions, China states that it is not only in their interest but in the interest of global prosperity.

"It benefits not only China and the U.S. but also the world economy for the two countries to reach a mutually beneficial, win-win agreement as soon as possible," Guo Weimin, spokesperson of the Second Session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) said at a press conference on March 2, a day ahead of the session’s opening.

"Facts have proved that China and the U.S. have benefited from cooperation and suffered from confrontation. Therefore cooperation is the best choice," Guo added.

Recent high-level trade talks between China and the United States have achieved substantial progress regarding issues such as technology transfer, intellectual property rights protection and non-tariff barriers.

Guo said as permanent members of the UN Security Council and the world’s two largest economies, China and the U.S. have broad common interests and shoulder important responsibilities to safeguard world peace and stability and to promote global development and prosperity.

The CPPCC National Committee serves as China’s top political advisory body. The 2,100-strong committee is composed of members from the ruling Communist Party of China and non-Communist parties alike, as well as those from different sectors of society ranging from science and technology to the press.
