In this episode of ChinAfrica 360 we look at the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to be held on September 3-4.

To shed some light on this topic, we asked three African ambassadors to China to share their thoughts on FOCAC and what it means to Sino-African relations. They are from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Senegal.

FOCAC provides a platform promoting China-Africa cooperation in all fields. The platform consists of China, 53 African countries with diplomatic relations with China and the African Union Commission.

It was established in 2000 with its first ministerial conference held in Beijing on October 10-12 that year. It has held two summits to date with the most recent being in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2015.

Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi said this year’s summit will elevate China-Africa Comprehensive Strategic and Cooperative Partnership to a new level. In light of changes taking place globally and the new demand for growth on the African continent, the summit will unveil new measures to step up China-Africa cooperation in all aspects.
