The 16th session of the China Open tennis tournament wrapped up in Beijing on October 6 after 15 days of competition. Top seed Dominic Thiem from Austria overcame a one-set deficit to defeat third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the men's final of the 2019 China Open,while Japanese player Naomi Osaka fought back from a set down to overtake world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty, winning the women's final. Established in 2004, the annual men's and women's event features the highest level of competition and the most players in Asia. It has gained popularity for tennis in China as well as seen the rise of Chinese players. The women's event is the third highest tier in the Premier Mandatory series on the Women's Tennis Association tour, while the men's is a fourth tier ATP World Tour 500 series event.
