The 17th BRICS Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on July 6-7. Focusing on topics such as peace and security and reform of global governance, this summit discussed how the BRICS group of emerging economies can play its role in a volatile international environment. On July 2-4, the 13th World Peace Forum was held in Beijing. Themed Advancing Global Peace and Prosperity: Shared Responsibility, Benefit and Achievement, the forum brought together leading strategists, senior policymakers and former political leaders to discuss issues concerning global security, geopolitical tensions and changes in the international order. Both events demonstrated the international community's continuous pursuit of universal peace and highlighted China's position as a steadfast defender of world peace and development. BRICS countries, through summits and other mechanisms, emphasize multilateralism and the reform of the global governance system, promoting the establishment of a fairer and more just international order. This reform will help address the root causes of international conflicts and promote world peace. BRICS advocates resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation, rejecting unilateralism and hegemony. The 13th World Peace Forum, a non-governmental international security platform, brought together great minds from around the world for equal dialogue. It advocated multilateralism, urging nations to respect one another, engage in equal consultation, strengthen global governance and tackle shared challenges. In the face of complex international developments and escalating regional conflicts, global peace and development face unprecedented challenges. Proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity exemplifies China's approach to addressing the world's current trials and tribulations. This year sees the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. In this important year, the international community must reaffirm its commitment to the UN's purposes, which include maintaining international peace and security, as well as achieving international cooperation in solving international problems.
