From June 24 to 26, the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF), also known as the Summer Davos forum, named after the WEF's high-profile annual meeting held in winter in the Swiss mountain resort of Davos, took place in Tianjin, a port city in north China.
Over 1,800 representatives from businesses, governments, social organizations, international bodies, media and academia from more than 90 countries and regions gathered around the theme Entrepreneurship for a New Era. The discussions spanned multiple areas, covering cutting-edge technologies like AI, new energy and new materials. Participants explored how these technologies can drive industrial upgrading and economic growth, providing intellectual support for the global economy.
The Summer Davos placed a strong emphasis on emerging markets, particularly China and Asia at large. A major engine of global economic growth, Asia contributes 60 percent of the world's GDP growth. Through this event, participants gained in-depth insights into the region's opportunities in order to better promote cooperation among emerging markets.
This year is the final year of China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and the time to outline the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30). This forum helped the wider world get an idea of China's achievements in high-quality economic growth and its commitment to high-level opening up, all the while shedding light on the nation's development trends. "China has clear development goals, consistent planning and guidance, resolute reform measures and pragmatic macro policies," Premier Li Qiang said at the opening ceremony of the Tianjin Summer Davos. "These measures enable the Chinese economy to navigate through cycles and develop in a sound and steady manner."
Moreover, the forum provided an important communication platform for the global business community, fostering cooperation among multinational corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, and emerging companies. As an important gathering for global innovators, the Summer Davos delved into strategies for expanding transformative technologies, promoting innovative business models and forging new partnerships. This is essential for businesses to stay competitive in a rapidly changing economic landscape and drive sustainable global economic development.
The event sent a clear message of strengthening communication and supporting entrepreneurs, thus providing more stability and certainty for the world economy.
