Vocational Education Week 2025 ran from May 11 to 17. Since 2015, the Ministry of Education and other authorities have held activities in the second week of May each year to promote skills training as an important part of the national education system and the country's workforce development efforts. The event also aims to integrate vocational education with the needs of economic and social progress.
Regarding the development of vocational education as an important path to achieving sustainable development, the government is strengthening policy support, innovating institutional design, accelerating the establishment of a modern schooling system with investment from both public and private sources and building an effective framework for administration and supervision.
Combining government guidance with market forces and promoting integration between industry and education, China has established the world's largest vocational education system, producing more than 10 million graduates each year.
Currently, over 120,000 programs in 1,300 disciplines are offered by vocational education institutions across the country, covering all fields of the national economy. The employment rates of graduates from vocational secondary schools and vocational colleges exceed 95 percent and 90 percent respectively, with more than 70 percent of the graduates being recruited to jobs suited to their training.
China has also been proactively encouraging its vocational education institutions to go global and achieved remarkable progress. The country has strengthened vocational education cooperation with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. More than 400 Chinese vocational colleges have forged partnerships with foreign educational institutions to run schools, with over 30 Luban Workshops, programs aiming to promote vocational education exchange and cooperation between China and other countries and regions, set up across Asia, Europe and Africa. As part of its opening up to the outside world, China is committed to establishing an international exchange platform and sharing its experience in developing vocational education with the international community.
Chinese modernization covers all areas, including economy, society, culture and education. China's vocational education is developing in tandem with its modernization drive, playing a significant role in serving economic growth, improving people's wellbeing, optimizing the education system and enhancing international exchange. Its contributions to the modernization process are irreplaceable.
