Xinjiang reports no new Covid-19 cases for two consecutive days

There has been no new cases of Covid-19 for the two consecutive days in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China, since August 16. 

As of August 17, Xinjiang had 354 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 124 asymptomatic cases, all in Urumqi, and 8,538 people are under medical observation, according to the regional health commission‘s report on August 18. 

"No new confirmed cases does not mean no risk," Liu Jun, Urumqi Municipal People’s Government deputy secretary general, told a daily briefing, adding that there was still pressure to prevent a resurgence of the disease. 

From July 15 to August 17, a total of 472 patients had been discharged from hospital after recovery, and 114 asymptomatic cases were dismissed from medical observation.
