Trans-Pacific Debate
Many problems and divergences can be resolved if the U.S. drops its pride and prejudice

The televised debate between Fox News anchor Trish Regan and China Global Television Network (CGTN) host Liu Xin on May 30 received widespread attention.

Liu joined Regan on the latter's show on Fox Business Network from CGTN's Beijing studio for a live discussion on China-U.S. trade issues. The 16-minute talk covered topics from intellectual property protection and tariff disputes to China's status as a developing nation.

As a matter of fact, it was more like a dialogue than a debate with both being polite and restrained.

Although they didn't reach a consensus at the end, the dialogue was still meaningful. It enabled people in the U.S., who have long been under the influence of the U.S. media, to know China's views. Hopefully people in the U.S. will have an objective understanding of the China-U.S. trade friction after watching the debate.

It is noteworthy that Regan dropped her earlier high-strung and inflammatory manner in the debate. It indicates that as long as the U.S. is willing to have dialogue and negotiations based on equality and facts, problems can be resolved through candid communication.

Many problems and divergences can be resolved if the U.S. drops its pride and prejudice. Although the debate was between the two countries' media, it can provide some useful tips for the two countries' governments to address the trade friction.
