With China contributing 30 percent of global growth and playing an increasing role in global governance, the people of over a dozen countries regard it as an important engine for world economic growth as well as promoting world peace, according to a survey released at the conclusion of an initiative to bring think tanks of the world together for global governance reform.

The two-day Global Think Tank Forum 2018 ended in Chengdu City on November 23 with a consensus among participants from 18 countries to seek cooperation despite differences, conduct more research on cultural and religious issues, and contribute more pragmatic and effective policy proposals. It also saw the release of "Conceptions of China in Major BRI Participating Countries", the result of an online survey with 8,500 respondents from 18 countries on six aspects. While 85.2 percent of the respondents called China an important engine for world economic growth, 81.4 percent lauded its efforts in poverty alleviation, and 84.5 percent called it a powerhouse for scientific innovations, especially high-speed railways. A collaboration between the Academy of China and World Studies and East China University of Political Science and Law, the survey also found 72.5 percent regarding Chinese culture as being beneficial to world cultural diversity and integrated development of diversified culture. The Belt and Road proposed by China was perceived as a global public project with excellent prospects by 72.5 percent.

The two institutions also released a report, "China's Role in Global Governance Today", the result of evaluations of the unfolding socio-political-economic scenario in the past four years.

True to the words of Guo Weimin, Vice Minister of the State Council Information Office, who said at the forum that think tanks should come up with innovative products, the event, hosted by the Beijing-based China International Publishing Group (CIPG) and Chengdu Municipal People's Government, also saw the inauguration of the Research Center on International Think Tank Cooperation.

Wang Gangyi, senior fellow of Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies and former Vice President of CIPG, said the center will be a platform in Chengdu, a growing hub of cross-border transportation, with plans to have a presence in capital Beijing as well as some other major Chinese cities.
