In 1941, a group of American fighter pilots soared over Kunming, Yunnan Province, defending China from air raids conducted by Japan. The locals gave them a name from legend: Feihudui— the Flying Tigers. Today, those wartime bonds are taking flight again, through history, memory and youth.
Led by Jeffrey Greene, the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation has brought over 500 veterans and their families back to China in recent years. Some of the last surviving Flying Tigers gaze out at today's China, with pride. Now, with the Flying Tigers Friendship School and Youth Leadership Program, their story is bridging generations.
The Flying Tigers live on—not just in history books, but in hearts.
