Hello and welcome to the 6th issues of Beijing Review. Photo designed by Cui Xiaodong COVER STORY From Davos to the World is about the annual World Economic Forum in the small alpine town of Davos, Switzerland. The theme was about creating a shared future in a fractured world, which sprung out of President Xi Jinxing’s speech last year at Davos and the United Nations which introduced the unifying theme. China was well represented and had many contributing voices in trying to find solutions to the challenges of global development. WORLD Still Golden focuses on British Prime Minister Theresa May’s first visit to China. She reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to continuing the upward momentum of China-UK relations, bolstering cooperative initiatives and investments between the two countries. And the British government has pledged support for participation in the Belt and Road Initiative. ESSAY Reforming the International Order is an analysis of China’s interest and participation in global development on the international stage. While western nations accuse China of fomenting change in the current international order, changing global patterns since WWII have caused developing countries emerging from the shadow of western supremacy to look for other solutions, and China’s new models are providing attractive alternatives.
