"For those who with autism, their works brim with infinite candor, leading us to rethink the balance between experience and innocence in the arts." said Li Mu, a professor at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University.

The presentation is a part of a bigger book illustration exhibition, themed "Image of the West." Aside from the autistic artists' works, over 180 other illustration works from all over Europe and America are on display during this exhibition.

As the world finds itself in a tight spot due to the novel coronavirus disease, Su Dan, Vice Director of the Tsinghua University Art Museum, hoped audiences would be able to obtain hope and power from these artists' works.

An illustration is a decoration or visual explanation of a text and usually exists in printed books, for example, children's storybooks. Bernardino Regazzoni, Swiss Ambassador to China, believed that illustrated stories first came onto the scene in Switzerland. "Today, the tradition of the comic book lives on in Switzerland."

 

The exhibition marks the 70th anniversary of China-Switzerland diplomatic relations, jointly hosted by the Tsinghua University Art Museum, Les Maîtres de l'Imaginaire Foundation and the Embassy of Switzerland in China.
