Pianos for Hope

The renowned Sing for Hope pianos have returned to the streets of New York City. The artist-designed instruments will be placed in parks and public spaces across the city's five boroughs for anyone and everyone to play.

The 50 pianos were officially unveiled at Fosun Plaza at 28 Liberty Street in Lower Manhattan on June 3.

It's the eighth year of the country's largest annual public art project. The non-profit organization, established in 2006 by opera singers Monica Yunus and Camille Zamora, will mark the placement of its 500th Sing for Hope Piano this year, making New York host to more public pianos than any other city in the world.

The 50 one-of-a-kind pianos will not only provide music until June 23, but will live on this fall at permanent homes in the city's public schools, extending the reach of the educational program to over 100,000 students and community members annually.

"As Sing for Hope continues to expand nationally and internationally, we remain deeply committed to our New York City home that inspired it all, where a hub of community and connection forms around each Sing for Hope piano," said Yunus and Zamora. The Sing for Hope Center at Fosun Plaza was also unveiled which will house the groups offices, the SFH Pianos Art Studio and dedicated educational and rehearsal facilities, according to the co-founders.

"Our work with Sing for Hope and other arts organizations helps advance Fosun Plaza's role as a center for arts and culture in Lower Manhattan while promoting community inclusive happiness," said Wei Bo, co-chief executive representative of Fosun International in New York.

"Sharing joyful art experiences with all communities globally is our dream. This piano exhibition shows Fosun's commitment to New York City families. Working with other influential organizations has created more joyful products and experiences available to residents and global tourists in downtown Manhattan. This year, we are also thrilled to provide a permanent home for Sing for Hope at Fosun Plaza, " Wei added.

Fosun Plaza also donated space to the program for the fourth consecutive year, providing the communal studio where artists designed and painted the Sing for Hope pianos.

Fosun's participation in the 2019 Sing for Hope Pianos is part of the family-focused Chinese conglomerate's global Family Day initiative in honor of International Day of Families on May 15.
