Xu Can won China's first ever World Boxing Association (WBA) title after he defeated defending featherweight champion Jesus Rojas of Puerto Rico on January 26 in Houston.

Xu, 24, became China's youngest world professional boxing champion, winning with scores of 117-111, 116-112 and 118-110 over Rojas.

Xu has also become the third boxing golden belt winner from China, after former WBO flyweight champion Zou Shiming and ex-WBC minimum-weight winner Xiong Chaozhong.

During an interview with Chinese media, Xu said the golden belt meant a lot to him. "This has been my dream since childhood, this is my father's dream and I have made it come true today."

Born in east China's Jiangxi Province, Xu started training at the age of 16. He is currently the highest-ranking Chinese boxer in the featherweight (126 pounds or 57.15 kg) division.
