President Xi Jinping's advocacy of "building a human community with shared destiny" offers a new solution to difficult issues worldwide, said Jiang Jianguo, Minister of the State Council Information Office. At the launch ceremony of the Urdu version of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 14, Jiang said this concept reflects China's courage to undertake global responsibilities.

Xi Jinping: The Governance of China is a collection of 79 speeches, talks, interviews, notes and letters by President Xi between November 2012 and June 2014. It briefs readers on China's development, domestic and foreign policies, and responses to concerns of the international community. Since its first publication in 2014, more than 6.2 million copies of the book in multiple languages have been circulated across the world.

The English version of the book was released in Pakistan in December 2014. China International Publishing Group and the Pakistan-China Institute have worked together to translate it into Urdu to facilitate reading by more Pakistani readers. At the launch ceremony, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said, "From this book, we learn how China has transformed itself in the last four decades."

An edited excerpt of Jiang's speech follows:

The Urdu version of this book before all of us carries the scent of ink. It will help build a new platform for mutual communication, mutual reference and mutual learning between China and Pakistan on governance of the nation, and serve as a new witness to the enhanced friendship of the two neighbors.

In the more than four years since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in late 2012, China has continuously created new "lists of achievements" in various causes.

The country's reform has been deepened in all aspects, its economy has made continuous advancements, its society has maintained harmony and stability, and its people have been living and working in peace and contentment.

All these achievements have been made under the guidance of President Xi's thoughts on China's governance and because of the joint efforts of Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi as the core.

In April 2015, President Xi paid a visit to Pakistan, and in a speech titled Building a China-Pakistan Community of Shared Destiny to Pursue Closer Win-Win Cooperation, he put forward five proposals on the development of China-Pakistan friendship, winning a positive response from Pakistani friends.

To build a human community with shared destiny is an important concept embodied in President Xi's thoughts on governance of the nation, and this concept has been included in resolutions passed by UN organizations.

Why has President Xi's governance philosophy got high endorsement from the international community?

First, President Xi hits the bull's eye with his important thought with regard to the main contradictions of current human society and offers a golden key to resolving numerous thorny issues in the world.

In the current world, peace, development, cooperation and win-win have become the themes of the times. On the other hand, the world is also plagued with feeble economic growth, and faces turbulent situations and the emergence of certain problems that have led human society to a crossroads. In such a big world facing numerous problems, we do need great wisdom for global governance.

President Xi's advocacy of building a human community with shared destiny is aimed at building an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world with lasting peace, widespread safety and common prosperity, and it points out the development direction for human society and offers a new solution to difficult issues worldwide.

Second, President Xi's such important thought offers the Chinese solution with unique Oriental wisdom and embodies China's responsibility to care about the shared destiny of humankind. Chinese people hope for better lives not only for themselves, but also for the people in the rest of the world.

At a time when China's economy is experiencing stable and robust development, we welcome all countries to get a free ride on China's train of development. In today's world, when isolationism, protectionism and a counter-globalization current have emerged, President Xi's advocacy of "building a human community with shared destiny" reflects China's courage to undertake responsibilities.

Third, President Xi's such important thought gives consideration to the actual situation both now and in the future, and offers the greatest common divisor for the values and interests of countries across the world. Human destiny should be jointly mastered and international rules should be jointly made by all countries. Mutual communication, mutual reference, joint action and sharing remain general trends and common aspirations of the people.

The concept of "building a human community with shared destiny," put forward by President Xi, which is based on China but also targeted at the world, accords with humankind's common interests, and thus will inevitably push human society to march toward a new high of civilization.

What I want to point out here is that over the more than two years since the first publication of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, President Xi has also made a series of other important remarks. In the latter half of this year, the 19th National Congress of the CPC is due to be held, and after that we will summarize his new thoughts on China's governance and share these fruits with our Pakistani friends.

The great Pakistani people celebrated their 78th National Day not long ago, and a Chinese People's Liberation Army military guard of honor was invited to attend the parade, which Chinese media extensively covered.

Pakistan is China's good friend, good neighbor and good brother. It is an important part of the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Initiative (Belt and Road Initiative) and a preferred cooperative partner of China. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative that has directly created more than 10,000 jobs. It is believed that through our concerted efforts and common hard work, a more beautiful and more prosperous Pakistan will emerge in the world.

As early as the 1970s, a Pakistani film about a love story was shown in cinemas across China, and a lot of Chinese were moved by the tale. Its inspiring theme song still resounds in our hearts. Before my visit to Pakistan, I spent some time watching the film and still felt very impressed. It has further deepened my good feelings toward Pakistani people. "If two peoples are of the same mind, their sharpness can cut through metal," an old Chinese proverb goes.

The building of a human community with shared destiny is inseparable from the building of a China-Pakistan community of shared destiny. As long as Chinese and Pakistani people continuously deepen their brotherhood, give full play to their advantages, support each other and pursue common development, we are sure to have a more charming, more magnificent China-Pakistan relationship, and make larger contributions to human civilization.
