The fifth World Intelligence Congress, a major artificial intelligence (AI) event in China, kicked off in north China's Tianjin Municipality on May 20, highlighting frontier AI technologies and applications.

The four-day event, with the theme of "New Era of Intelligence: Empowering New Development, Fostering New Pattern," has attracted the participation of over 240 AI companies and institutions.

A series of activities, including forums, exhibitions and competitions featuring smart cities and transportation, smart manufacturing, and IT application and innovation, will be presented during the event.

The development and application of the new generation of AI require cross-border and inter-disciplinary scientific research, which necessitates the participation and cooperation of all countries, said Wan Gang, chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology.

Over the past four years, more than 10,000 scientists, entrepreneurs, educators and financiers from home and abroad have participated in the event to discuss the trends and future of smart technology.
