That means it wields the power to elect national leaders, as well as approve government budgets and national development plans. The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) serves as an important institution of the Communist Party of China-led multiparty cooperation and political consultation system. It is a specialist consultative body in China's whole-process people's democracy. The CPPCC National Committee is the top political advisory body. Its members advise the NPC Standing Committee and other bodies on major national policies and key issues spanning economic, political, cultural, social and ecological development. Both bodies hold a plenary session each year. The current 14th NPC has nearly 3,000 deputies, while the 14th CPPCC National Committee has over 2,000 members. They all serve five-year terms. |
