Top legislator Zhang Dejiang called on China and Japan to push bilateral ties "in the right direction" through legislative cooperation on January 11.

Zhang, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislative body, told a delegation of Japan's lower house of parliament that both sides should uphold the principles defined in the two countries' four political documents agreed upon over the past decades to consolidate the political basis for bilateral relations.

He called on the two countries to reflect on history and use this to drive forward the bilateral relationship, as this year marks the 45th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan diplomatic ties.

A healthy and stable win-win relationship between the two neighbors is in line with the common interests of the two peoples, according to Zhang.

He said the NPC is willing to work with Japan's parliament to increase exchanges and promote people-to-people friendship to improve China-Japan ties.
