At the Eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE), global forestry giant Suzano expressed strong confidence in the Chinese market, pointing to increased investments and a strategic alignment with China’s high-quality development goals.

Pablo Machado, Global Executive Vice President of Suzano, highlighted China’s enduring role as the company’s largest market. "The Chinese market continues to grow. It is not only growing, but also upgrading," Machado told Beijing Review, referencing the country’s transition “from high-speed to high-quality” growth. He confirmed that Suzano is adjusting its business strategy accordingly, increasing investments in research and development, innovation, and full value-chain engagement to meet the increasingly sophisticated demands of Chinese consumers and leverage local technology and manufacturing.

Celebrating its fifth participation at the CIIE, Machado praised the expo as “a very unique event.” He emphasized its role in connecting foreign companies with a wide array of Chinese and foreign stakeholders, including non-financial business sectors, financial institutions and government officials. “To us, CIIE is the clear translation of China’s high-quality opening up,” he said, underscoring its value for business expansion.

Commenting on the Brazil-China partnership, Machado noted the bilateral relations are “at their peak,” underpinned by highly complementary economies. China provides to Brazil technology and equipment; and Brazil provides to China raw materials, food, and energy sources, he explained. He also pointed to cultural similarities and aligned international policies as foundations for the strong relationship.

On China’s development, Machado, drawing on Suzano’s 40-year presence in the country, lauded its “high-level opening up.” He highlighted China’s evolution into a “top-notch country” in technology innovation and its highly educated workforce. “The more we localize our operations... and the more we align our business strategy with the development strategy of the country, the more we see our business thrive,” Machado concluded, affirming the crucial role of China’s unique combination of factors in Suzano’s continued expansion.
