Maria Sferruzza has been looking forward to attending the Third China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai for months but failed to make it due to the travel restrictions caused by the novel coronavirus disease.

To her delight, Sferruzza, Senior Vice President for Asia Pacific at Baker Hughes, one of the world's largest energy technology companies headquartered in the United States, made an appearance at the CIIE during an online interview via video link, connecting her, in Singapore, with media in Shanghai.

Baker Hughes participated in the first and second CIIE as part of the GE delegation. This year it debuted under its own name. "China is one of the few countries in the world that can hold this kind of large event live," Sferruzza said. "It is also a sign that China is further opening to international players including our company. This event has provided a great platform for us to socialize with our potential partners."

Sferruzza said Baker Hughes has over 2,000 employees and seven manufacturing sites in China. At this year's CIIE, the company showcased a wide range of innovative technologies that drive productivity and improve outcomes across the oil and gas value chain.

She expressed Baker Hughes' support for China's goal of carbon neutrality by 2060, announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in a speech at the General Debate of the 75th Session of the UN General Assembly on September 22. She said the strategy and plans of Baker Hughes in China will remain focused and the pandemic has accelerated the plans, making them work to further strengthen collaboration with oil companies from China and other countries to support China's agenda on energy security.

Cao Yang, Vice President of China at Baker Hughes, echoed Sferruzza. "We're excited to better support China's national energy security agenda through our century-long continuous innovation and revolutionary inventions, collaborating with local industry champions to realize China's decarbonization ambitions," Cao said.
