World's first 1-million-kw hydro-turbine generator unit was hoisted in Baihetan Hydropower Station on June 21.

The station is a 16 GW hydroelectric facility under construction on the Jinsha River in southwest China, It will become the world’s second-largest hydropower project upon completion, and is expected to start generating electricity by 2021 and reach full operational capacity by 2022.

Baihetan Hydropower Station will install eight 1-GW hydraulic generators, while the runner is the core component of the unit, determining the flow capacity, hydraulic efficiency and the stability of the unit. The projected is constructed by China Three Gorges Corp., a central state-owned clean energy group. It is also the builder and operator of the Three Gorges Dam, the world largest hydropower project.
