Chinese shoppers shrugged off any concerns over a slowing economy and bought 10 billion yuan ($1.47 billion) worth of goods within the first seven minutes after Alibaba's Singles Day online shopping festival kicked off at the midnight of November 11.
Alibaba's Taobao and Tmall, China's largest consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer online marketplaces, established the shopping spree in 2009, which has become a boon for the founders and e-commerce companies across the country.
