Mao Zedong Passes Away

Mao Zedong passed away just after midnight on September 9, 1976 in Beijing as a result of the worsening of his illness. Mao Zedong was a great Marxist and a great proletarian revolutionary, strategist and theorist. He rendered indelible meritorious service in founding and building up the Communist Party of China and the Chinese People's Liberation Army, in winning victory for the cause of liberation of the Chinese people, in founding the People's Republic of China and in advancing the socialist cause. He made major contributions to the liberation of the oppressed nations of the world and to the progress of mankind.

Zhou Enlai Passes Away

Zhou Enlai, Member of the CPC Central Committee, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Vice-Chairman of the CPC Central Committee, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, died of cancer on January 8, 1976, in Beijing at the age of 78.

Zhou Enlai was a fine member of the Communist Party of China, a great proletarian revolutionary of the Chinese people, a loyal revolutionary fighter of the Chinese people and an outstanding, long-tested leader of the Party and the state.

Zhu De Passes Away

Zhu De, Member of the CPC Central Committee, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, died of illness on July 6, 1976 in Beijing at the age of 90.

Zhu De was a fine member of the Communist Party of China, a great revolutionary fighter and proletarian revolutionary of the Chinese people and one of the outstanding leaders of the Party, the state and the army.

`Gang of Four' Smashed

In early October, the Party Central Committee headed by Comrade Hua Guofeng crushed the plot of the "gang of four" for a counter-revolutionary restoration and got rid of a big evil in the Party, indicating the end of the 10-year ``cultural revolution."

Strong Earthquake Hits Tangshan

A strong earthquake occurred in Tangshan on July 28, 1976, killing at least 240,000 people.
