1996: First Chief Executive in HK

On December 11, 1996, the 400 members of the Selection Committee for the first government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) voted in a secret ballot in Hong Kong for its first Chief Executive. Tung Chee Hwa gained 320 votes to defeat two other candidates.
