NPC Passes Decisions on HK

The Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) was adopted at the closing meeting of the Third Session of the Seventh National People's Congress (NPC) on April 4.

The meeting also approved the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as of July 1, 1997. Under its jurisdiction are Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula and a number of isles and adjacent waters.

The 11th Asian Games

China successfully hosted the 11th Asian Games, the largest ever held in the history of the Asian Games. The Chinese sports delegation won the most gold medals.
