People's Daily lauds Party Congress

The People's Daily, the flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China (CPC), will publish a commentary Monday, hailing the 17th CPC National Congress, which closed on Sunday.

The week-long congress, which outlined a roadmap for China's development in the next few years to come, has united the Party and the whole nation, embarking on a new journey of socialist building, reads the commentary.

It encourages the whole Party to profoundly understand the significance of holding high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the essence of the treasured experience gained from the practice of reform and open-up in nearly three decades, and the fundamental requirements for pushing forward Party construction with reformative and innovative spirit.

The commentary urges Party members to contribute all their wisdom and strength to fulfill the strategic deployment and important missions launched by the 17th CPC National Congress.

In the coming five years which is the pivotal period of building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, the commentary says, the Party and the country have to realize rapid and sound economic growth, develop socialist democracy, further prosper socialist culture, increasingly promote social construction to improve people's livelihood, push forward the practice of "one country, two systems" and the great cause of reunification, and stick to the road of peaceful development.

Full of confidence, it says, the CPC has high chance to lay more solid basis for bettering the moderately prosperous society which is going to benefit all Chinese people.

The commentary says the 17th CPC National Congress is a very important one at the key stage of China's reform and development.

"It is a solidary, victorious and forward-leaning Party congress," it says.

The commentary also speaks high of the Scientific Outlook on Development, which takes development as its essence, putting people first as its core, comprehensive, balanced and sustainable development as its basic requirement, and overall consideration as its fundamental approach.

It says the outlook is a continuation and development of the important thoughts on development advanced by the three generations of central collective leadership of the CPC and a concentrated expression of the Marxist world outlook and methodology with regard to development.

The outlook is an important guiding principle for China's economic and social development and a major strategic thought that we must uphold and apply in developing socialism with Chinese characteristics, the commentary says.

With the full implementation of the scientific outlook, socialism with Chinese characteristics would have an even brighter future, the newspaper says.
