The Beijing Film Academy (BFA) will add a 3D film production course into its curriculum, Chinafilm.com reports.

Professor Mu Deyuan, dean of the Cinematography Department at BFA, reveals that the 3D film production will be a compulsory subject for cinematography students beginning next semester.

Currently, the BFA is working with an American company on the 3D film E'pang Palace. One of the photographers on the project is a teacher in the cinematography department.

The BFA owns two sets of 3D film production systems and will invest another 10 million yuan ($1.5 million) for more 3D equipment.

With the 3D blockbuster Avatar hitting cinemas around the world, 3D films are now commonly believed to be the future of film.
