At the end of the competition and during the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, the official juries award the Palme d’Or for best feature film and Grand Prix for the film that shows the most originality and research. Awards for the best actress, actor, director and screenplay, Short Film Palme d’Or, two Prix du Jury awards and the Caméra d’Or round out the presentations. The following are the awards won by Chinese films and filmmakers.

1993 Farewell My Concubine, directed by Chen Kaige, won the Palme d’Or prize. The Puppetmaster, directed by Taiwan’s Hou Hsiao-hsien, won the Prix du Jury award.

1994 To Live, directed by Zhang Yimou, won the Grand Prix du Jury award, and Best Actor award for Ge You.

1995 Shanghai Triad, directed by Zhang Yimou, won the Grand Prix de la Commission Supérieure Technique for Lu Yue, Bruno Patin and Olivier Chiavassa.

1997 Happy Together, directed by Wong Kar-wai, won the Best Director prize.

1999 The Emperor and the Assassin, directed by Chen Kaige, won the Grand Prix de la Commission Supérieure Technique for Tu Juhua.

2000 Yi Yi, directed by Edward Yang, won the Best Director prize. Devil at the Doorstep, directed by Jiang Wen, won the Grand Prix award. In the Mood for Love, directed by Wong Kar-wai, produced the Best Actor award for Leung Chiu-wai.

2001 Run Away, directed by Yang Chao, won the award bestowed upon the Cinefondation short films.

2004 Clean, directed by Olivier Assayas, produced the Best Actress award for Maggie Cheung. Lu Cheng, directed by Yang Chao, won the Caméra d’Or award.

2005 Shanghai Dreams, directed by Wang Xiaoshuai, won the Prix du Jury award.
